FARRES-HERVADA: TEMPERAMENTS
Musicality, shared energy and a good dose of joy and honesty both as performers and in their relationship to music. These are just some of the qualities of the stable duo formed by trumpeter Mireia Farrés –considered one of the best in the world– and pianist Mercè Hervada, in whom the OBC soloist has discovered a remarkably skilled and generous performer as fellow traveller.

MIREIA FARRÉS
A trumpeter born in Santpedor (Barcelona), she studied first at the Manresa Music Conservatory and later at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where she was an outstanding student of maestro Charles Schlueter.

At a very young age, she began her experience as an instrumentalist with the JONC (Youth National Orchestra of Catalonia), continued as solo trumpet with the Granada Symphony Orchestra (2001-2004), until obtaining the position of solo trumpet with the OBC (Oquestra Ciudad de Barcelona).

Her brilliant and emotional interpretations have often led her to perform as a soloist with other formations such as the Barcelona Symphony, the Graffenneg Festival Orchestra, the Rostock Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Andorra, the Granada Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Galicia, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Salvador de Bahía Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Gioorquestra, among others. She has also played with Christian Zaccharias, Jaime Martín, Yuja Wang, Marta Argerich, Rosa Torres Pardo... And in August 2015, she was invited to participate in the Graffenegg Festival, with a work by Matthias Pinchter for two trumpets, where she played with Tine Thing Helseth, under the baton of the same composer.

Her vocation to explore the most colorful and intimate sound possibilities of the instrument has led her to participate in several chamber ensembles, such as the stable duo with pianist Mercè Hervada, with whom she has performed original music for trumpet and piano at various festivals in the country and abroad, and with whom she has just recorded the album Temperaments (Seed Music), with an original work by Salvador Brotons and poems by Manuel Forcano.

Her versatility has often led her to explore new interpretive fields such as improvised music and for this reason she has collaborated with great musicians like saxophonist Llibert Fortuny and the pianist Manel Camp on the Jazz Nadal and Jazz Bach projects. She has also premiered many works composed and intended for her playing and sound, so that the legacy of new compositions for the trumpet is always on the rise.

She has been a professor at the Mallorca Higher Conservatory of Music and the Granollers Conservatory and currently works as a teacher at the ESMUC (Higher School of Music of Catalonia). She also collaborates as a teacher of young orchestras (JONC and JONDE) and teaches masterclasses and participates in festivals of both state and European conservatories and the Chosen Vale in the United States. She is requested to be part of tribunals for international trumpet and chamber competitions, such as the Munich ARD among others. Her outgoing and close character makes her often a guest in the media for interviews and various programs.

Awards and prizes:

· Honor Award for Trumpet and Honor Award for Chamber Music, awarded by the Manresa Music Conservatory.
· Wind Department Award, Honorable Mention for soloist and Brass Quintet Honor Award for chamber music, awarded at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
· Young Award, granted by the Young International Chamber of Catalonia and awarded by the World Federation of Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs.
